There
are essentially THREE types of ribbons for Thermal Transfer
WAX BASED
Where
the ink is held onto the film media using a wax mix which melts with
the heat from the thermal head and allows the ink to be transferred
to the paper.
This is the cheapest type of ribbon but is prone to scuffing and best
used on matt finishes.
WAX/RESIN
MIX
Offers a smearless, more hard wearing print to both matt and gloss
paper finishes.
RESIN
BASED
Uses resin adhesive in the ink which makes it more durable (i.e. scuff/scratch
resistant) More commonly used with polyester, vinyl, plastic etc.
COMPATIBILITY
between media and ribbon is NOT difficult but is VITAL |
